One of the great advantages of LEGO Botanical sets over real flowers is longevity — but that doesn't mean they're entirely maintenance-free. A little care goes a long way in keeping your display looking as sharp as the day you finished the build.
Dust Regularly
Dust is the main enemy of any LEGO display. Fine particles settle into the gaps between bricks and dull the colours over time. A soft, dry paintbrush or a can of compressed air works well for getting into tight spots. For a more thorough clean, a microfibre cloth lightly dampened with water is safe on most LEGO elements. Avoid any cleaning products — they can strip the finish from printed parts.
Keep Out of Direct Sunlight
Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight causes LEGO bricks to yellow and fade — particularly whites, yellows, and light greens. This is irreversible. If your display is near a window, use a sheer curtain to diffuse the light, or rotate the set periodically so no single side takes the full exposure. A north-facing windowsill is ideal if you want natural light without UV risk.
Store in a Stable Vase
An unstable display is a fallen display. LEGO Botanical stems are not designed to stand freely, and a knock can send an entire bouquet to the floor. Using a vase with a built-in holder — like the Future Vase, Lux Vase, or Grand Coral Vase — keeps stems locked in place and the arrangement intact. It also makes dusting easier, since you can lift the whole bouquet out as a unit.
Handle with Care When Cleaning
When you do need to handle individual flowers, hold them by the stem rather than the petals or leaves. LEGO connections are designed to be firm, but repeated flexing at the same joint can loosen them over time. If a piece does come loose, press it back firmly from the base rather than the top.
Avoid Humidity
Bathrooms and kitchens might seem like interesting spots for a botanical display, but high humidity can cause stickers (if your set uses any) to peel and can affect the fit of connections over time. Stick to dry, stable environments — living rooms and bedrooms are ideal.
Rebuild Occasionally
If your set has been on display for a year or more, consider a partial disassembly and rebuild. It's a good opportunity to clean individual pieces thoroughly, check for any loose connections, and refresh your memory of the build. Many LEGO Botanical fans find the rebuild as enjoyable as the original.
With the right vase and a little routine care, a LEGO Botanical set can look display-ready for years. That's a better return than most fresh flower arrangements.
